YPSI Weightlifting for Sports Workshop
Juli 9 @ 10:00 - 18:00
This Post is written in english, since this YPSI Seminar will be held in english.
Weightlifting or Olympic Weightlifting, is an athletic discipline in the Olympic Games in which the athlete attempts a maximum-weight single lift of a barbell either above the head in one move – the Snatch – or in in 2 moves – the Clean & Jerk.
The sport of weightlifting is risen to great popularity in the last decade primarily due to the sport of Crossfit, where weightlifting is a an essential part of training and competition. Beyond that, the weightlifting exercise have been staples of Strength & Conditioning Training for over 30 years, as they train and demonstrate explosive strength, a physical key element of athletic performance.
This one-day workshop will look at theory and practice of two aspects of weightlifting.
Contents of the Seminar
How to teach the weightlifting exercise
The Snatch and the Clean & Jerk – and its progressions and regressions are highly technical lifts, that many before with horrendous technique. The number one reason is because someone is taught poorly how to execute the lifts. There is multiple ways to teach them to someone that starts out, and each way has its benefits with especially two being the most high-percentage from a standpoint of time-efficient teaching. Wolfgang Unsoeld has done workshop, internships and consults with weightlifting coaches such as Rudolf Pflugfelder, Ivan Abadjiev, Pierre Roy, John Broz, Inge Johansson and Frank Mantek and has gained insight into their approach to teaching, correcting and optimize the lifts. Applying what weightlifting coaches to in weightlifting to a gym setting with no weightlifter is essential to properly teach a non-competitive weightlifter how to execute the ideal technique for them.
Therefore this workshop will NOT focus on on how to teach the lifts to competitive weightlifter which is has completely different focus and time consumption. This workshop will focus focus on on how to teach the lifts to a general population clients, an athlete and a Crossfit athlete. To make them component to introduce the lifts into their training, in less than 20 minutes.
How to implement and program weightlifting exercises for athletes
As with any other exercise, just doing will not lead to progress, especially not great progress. Three key questions when it comes to implementing weightlifting exercises into an athletes program are: How? When? Which?. That is, which sets, reps, tempo and rest is ideal, where to put them into the program and into the periodization, which of the many progressions and regressions to use with who and how to specifically choose variations to optimize technique and minimize weak links.
The students will learn how to execute many of the variations of the weightlifting exercises such as the full version, the power version, from hip, from hang, from floor, progressive clean, paused versions and more.
Due to the nature of this topic the seminar will be 50% theory and 50% practice.
