What is testosterone?
The hormone testosterone is the main androgen (male sex hormone) and an excellent indicator of overall body and nervous system health.
Testosterone is by far the most important sex hormone in men and is produced in the testicles. It is also found in women in small amounts. Men and women also produce limited amounts of testosterone in the adrenal glands, and women also produce small amounts in the ovaries.
What does testosterone do?
In men, testosterone causes the development of the sexual organs and the formation of typical male sexual characteristics (hair, deep voice, specific distribution of fat) as well as semen production and the control of sexual activity. It has a muscle-building (anabolic) effect.
Testosterone is closely related to the neurotransmitter dopamine, which increases strength, motivation and drive. Dopamine and testosterone are proportional to each other. If one goes up, the other goes up too. One of the reasons why you should increase every workout: "Success breeds success!"
What Increases Testosterone?
The most important basis for a healthy testosterone level is good sleep . Because deep sleep lowers the stress hormone cortisol, which is inversely proportional to testosterone and can suppress its production. When cortisol increases, testosterone decreases.
The most important supplement to increase your testosterone levels is magnesium, because it is needed for energy metabolism and physical activity. Magnesium is essential for the metabolism of cortisol. It influences the sympathetic nervous system as well as norepinephrine release and thus cortisol production.
An optimal magnesium level helps you to return to a relaxed state even during the day after a stressful situation. Recent research shows that taking it increases testosterone levels.
Crucial raw materials and co-factors in testosterone production are B6, zinc and cholesterol/fat.
Training with heavy weights causes a significantly higher release of testosterone than training with higher reps and lighter weights. For men who want to get in shape, the number of repetitions for the main exercises such as squats, pull-ups or bench press must be less than 6 reps.
Higher protein intake also increases testosterone. With a protein shake or amino acids after training, you can also effectively reduce cortisol and at the same time supply your muscles with amino acids.
Vitamin D affects fertility in both men and women and also increases it. Testosterone Every cell in our body has vitamin D receptors, including sperm.
I recommend every single YPSI customer and athlete to have their vitamin D level tested – the most efficient solution for testing vitamin D levels, here
What Lowers Your Testosterone?
Aside from cortisol, alcohol is the most effective way to lower testosterone. A binge reduces testosterone for 5 days. Marijuana also works well: 1x weed reduces testosterone for 2-3 days. Smoking weed for 2 days for 1 week. 1 week smoking weed for 1 month etc..
You should also avoid estrogen-promoting foods such as soy – even as a woman.
Low testosterone is a symptom, not a cause!
How do you determine your testosterone?
You can complete your level quickly and easily at home by using cerascreen's diagnostic self-test. The analysis is carried out in cerascreen's in-house human diagnostics laboratory. You can get the testosterone test right here
The testosterone/cortisol ratio
The first test that cerascreen developed together with the YPSI will be launched in the coming months. The best test to date to determine the individual ability to regenerate. By measuring the testosterone:cortisol ratio in saliva at 8 specific time points.
This enables training and supplementation to be controlled even more individually. For more success in training. Details following…
